Chapter III

Ally

    I realized it was nighttime.
"That was quick." I remarked. "Nighttime already?"
"Yes, but we musn't linger here any longer," Keesa said. She picked up the ancient scroll, fragile and crinkling. "The shadow wolves here are dangerous beings. They're called Kage. They have no hearts, and they can trick you by morphing into humans. Kage love doing that at night."
"Where do we have to go?" I asked, jumping up and down.
"To the Pizzeria. Chef is kind. He can lead us to his son. His son's a soldier. That'll help us more with offense on our way." Keesa answered. Then, we heard howling. "Quickly! Go straight!"
I blinked, partially stunned. The town looked like a completely different place in the dark. I ran blind, jumping over fallen goods and loose rocks.
"I hear yapping!" I called out, hearing barks.
   "Just keep going!" Keesa said.
I ran, and slid on a stick. Then I dodged a low stand's wooden frame. I skidded to a halt as I saw glaring eyes as yellow as a topaz, feeling a small bump from Keesa.
   "Don't move." Keesa ordered.
The Kage stepped out of the shadows, revealing rough black fur, and chains wrapped around them. I felt for my sword, but a Kage growled at me, snarling, showing stained teeth.
One of the wolves began to morph into a little boy, showing innocent eyes. "Please don't hurt us," He said in a sweet voice. "I'm too wittle."
I gasped, but Keesa took out a gun and shot him, who yipped and morphed back into a Kage, except dead.
   "Kage's trick you." She reminded.
Then, the Kage began to growl, and lunged at us with sharp teeth as I squeezed my eyes shut. Then, a light blue force pushed them back, and slammed them onto the ground. I opened my eyes, astonished. Keesa was struggling to keep the shield open.
   "Run, heroine!"
I ran in the circle, that began to act like a hamster ball. Kage attacked, but got ran over by the strong force. We crushed crates, the fruits being mashed up, and the shield exploded into psychic fragments. Keesa escorted me into the pizzeria, then shut and locked the door. A fat man wearing a stained white apron and fluffy hat walked in, surprised. It was Chef.
"You can put your hood down," Keesa whispered, and I did as I was told.
"Human," Chef exclaimed in a slow voice.
"Duh!" I said, a little agitated. I was sick and tired of being called 'Human'. It made me feel like a terrorist, if you know what I mean.
"I am sincerely sorry," Chef bowed, his fat belly shaking like a bowl of jelly. "What do you want?"
"We need you to lead you to your son," Keesa answered. "We seek him for assistance."
   "Aye," Chef answered. "Follow me."
Chef led us through a door that said Employes Only, revealing a huge garden that had trees growing various kinds of pizza. The fountains were squirting out beverages, like soda, juice, or slushies. At the very end of the garden was a car, and a garage door.
   "Quickly!"
I whirled around, seeing Kage flooding the garden. They had clawed the door open. We ran into the car, Chef taking the driver's seat. He locked the car doors, and pressed a button. The garage door slowly opened, revealing more Kage.
   "AHHH!" Me and Keesa screamed.
Drool was slowly coming down on the windows. Among the drool were patches of fur.
"We're getting out of here!" Chef stepped on the gas pedal, and we zoomed out of the ambush of Kage.
I turned around, seeing more Kage chasing after us. I looked straight, seeing a truck.
"MOVE!" I shrieked, and Chef swerved wildly to the right. I buckled my seat belt, feeling my heart racing. If this was fake, this would be an awesome roller coaster ride.
Chef then swerved to the left as Kage came into view. Then, a huge Kage pounded on the windshield, and jumped off as we skidded in circles.
   "I'm getting dizzy," Keesa groaned.
Then, we stopped circling, teetering on a cliff.
   "Don't move," Chef ordered.
The bloodthirsty wolves flooded the hood of the car. They jumped off the car as we barreled down the cliff, which was nearly steep.
"AHHHH!!!!!" We all screamed. Then we stopped, being caught by a thick root that was wider than the car. I covered my ears as the tires popped. Keesa fainted from fear.
"We at son's house," Chef pointed to a large tree house on other large roots.
