Chapter One

I walked in the classroom door. Hopefully, I don't move. Every school I go to, there's some odd thing that's happening. In preschool, my teacher tried to kill me with a knife during lunch. In kindergarden, my gym teacher tried to shoot me. In first grade, second grade, third grade, fourth grade and fifth grade, my substitutes tried to impale me. So now it's sixth grade, 2nd week, test on the Twelve Olympians.
When everyone was in their seats, Mr. Smith gave each of us a packet. I quickly wrote "Annabeth" on my packet. There was a story at the beginning, but I was troubled. You see, I have dyslexia and sometimes the letters just look like alphabet soup. The more frustrated I got, the more mixed up the letters were. This is what the first sentence looked like:

Ahetan asw gryan thwi Pseioond orf ingbring Medasu nito Teh Ahents.

"Class, this test is about Athena, Poseidon and Medusa." Mr. Smith said. He looked at his watch. "I, however, need to go to a meeting. Ms. Caroline will time your test."
"Ms. Caroline?!" I exploded. "I don't need another substitute!"
"Silence, Annabeth!" Mr. Smith replied. Something about his voice made me shut my mouth.
A girl with oddly pale skin walked in. She wore sunglasses and a feathery hat. She wore a dark dress with green heels. Something told me that those heels were made out of snake skin.
"Class, it is time to take this test." Ms. Caroline said in a comfy, warm tone. She turned to me. "Ah, have we met, miss?"
I looked up. I was busy writing the date. Ms. Caroline seemed to look angry at me. But she seemed oddly familiar. So I said, "I believe we do. But isn't you're name Mrs. Mattskri?"
Ms. Caroline slammed on my desk. I noticed that her fingernails were long and sharp.
"Mrs. Mattskri? Mrs. Mattskri?" Ms. Caroline's voice got higher and higher. "Annabeth, detention for you!"
Then I noticed a boy with white and yellow clothes on. "You're not our teacher! You can't boss this girl around!"
I suddenly heard a hissing noise from inside her hat. Mrs. Mattskri. Mrs. M. Mrs. Medusa!
     "Everyone!" I commanded. "Don't look!"
I heard a terrible hissing noise. The Ms. Caroline had uncovered her snakes as I squeezed my eyes shut.
I felt a pat on my arm. "Go away!" I said.
     "No, it's me Lucas."
I recognized the familiar tone. It was the boy with the white and yellow clothes. I felt his hand grab my arm and we tumbled out of the classroom. I opened my eyes. We were actually far away from the class. Lucas turned towards me.
"How'd you know she was Medusa?" Lucas asked.
"I just thought... I didn't know..." I stammered. Lucas shook his head in disappointment.
"They're sensing you," Lucas said. He grabbed my arm again. "We have to get out of here!"
We both ran down the hall. Wow. So much for a 2nd week of school with a review test and POOF! There's Medusa.
As we were about to burst out of school, a scaly hand grabbed me. Me and Lucas closed our eyes.
"Going ssssomewhere?" Medusa hissed in a shivering voice.
I felt Lucas press a dagger in my free hand. Without thinking, I cut her head off.
