Kallik
I felt splashes of water shower me. The orca's vivid teeth flashed in my mind. Nisa falling into the seemingly endless black water, Taqqiq's frightened black eyes, the blood on the orca's teeth. It all seemed overwhelming. No... should I die? Was I meant to give up my life?
"KALLIK!" Taqqiq interrupted my thoughts. I stared at him in alarm. "Watch out!"
I turned around and saw a bigger orca whale, thrusting at me with his jaws wide opened. I squeezed my eyes shut... I heard a roar. Taqqiq charged at the whale, wildly raking his claws and biting the orca's back. The orca groaned and flopped into the water.
"Taqqiq..." I breathed. So tired. What day. "thank you." I managed to say out of my breath.
"Kallik," Taqqiq said. "Are you ok? I am the older brother, and I should take care of you."
"I'm fine." My eyes became suddenly heavy. "And you're just a cub."
Taqqiq looked in fear as my breathing slowed its pace. I closed my eyes...
"Kallik? Kallik?" Taqqiq frantically asked.
I wasn't dying. I was just sleepy, tired from all this chaos. It felt nice to relax. I tried to tell Taqqiq that I was just gonna sleep, but somehow my mouth wouldn't budge.
"KALLIK!" Taqqiq yelled. "DON'T LEAVE ME!"
"I'm not gonna die you..." I managed to say those words, but a sudden sharp pain hit my neck. I frantically looked at Taqqiq, who had a sharp, pointy thing on his neck, dazzled with feathers.
"They're darts!" Taqqiq told me, wincing. "Mother told us that, remember?"
I turned around and saw two flat-faces in thick, seal-skin looking pelts. I turned to Taqqiq. He began to faint, and so did I.
Blackout.

Chapter Ten: Just One Problem
Toklo
It was the next day. Sunlight filtered into our hollowed stump. I saw Ujurak's lump of body, breathing up and down. His black eyes opened and stared at me.
"Morning," Ujurak wheezed.
That was weird.
"Are you ok?" I grumbled. Taking care of a younger bear is a lot of work!
Ujurak sheepishly took away a paw from his shoulder. The wound from yesterday, was still bleeding.
"Why didn't you tell me this before?!" I exploded. "You should've told me so I could've helped you!"
Ujurak stared down. "I'm going for a walk." He said and walked out of the stump.
I fixed my eyes on him. Maybe I should watch him.
I slowly walked out, looking at the ground in case prey was nearby. Then I heard a click.
No, no, no! Another flat-face with his mindless firestick. Another one was on Ujurak. Ujurak darted behind a tree and several bangs made dents in it.
"No!" A flat-face was yanking a flat-face's shoulder. "That bear should be left alone and the other is a human!"
Ujurak
I felt the fur shrink down, being replaced by strawberry blonde skin. My only fur left was on top of my head and brown pelts draped over me. A girl flat-face was peeking over the tree.
"Hi there." She said. The girl looked at my shoulder. "You need some treatment for that."
"Treatment?" I echoed.
"It won't hurt!" The girl assured me. "Maybe some stinging. Now are you 9 or 10?"
"9? 10?" I asked.
"I'll leave you as 9." The flat-face smiled and guided me to the flat-faces with the firesticks.
I tried not to let a growl at them.
"Ujurak!" I heard Toklo say. "Get out of there!"
"I can't!" I turned to where Toklo's voice was. I caught a glimpse of brown fur behind a boulder.
The flat-faces stared at me. "You just... roared!" One flat-face said.
"Anyways," The girl said. "I'll bring you to my home. Maybe I could fix your wound."
Home? I thought.

Chapter Nine: Sorrow and Relief
Lusa
It was nighttime and all the flat-faces were gone execpt for the ones dressed in blue pelts with the shiny things. Rain began to fall and Oka didn't eat a thing! She told me all about the wild, and the big, fat, juicy salmon! I saw Oka pad up to me, close to the gate.
"Do you see that star?" Oka solemnly said, pointing to the Bear Watcher.
"The Bear Watcher?" I asked. "I know! The Bear Watcher accompanies me sometimes."
"No, no." Oka said. "That is the lone star bear. It was a once foolish bear who would be greedy and selfish. But he suddenly died. We grizzlies looked into the sky and could see him, surrounded by different, unfriendly animals." I saw her mouth the words, "I'm sorry, Toklo."
"Its ok, Oka." I said. Oka nodded and we both fell asleep.
I awoke to the sound of thunder. Forked tongues came, trying to sting us all. I saw that Oka was not at the gate anymore, so I ran into the cave with Alicia, Ella, Yogi and Ming, my step-father.
"Stay close to me dear," Alicia soothed Lusa.
"Pish-posh!" Ming boomed, louder than the thunder. "It's the end of this world! We've been through these wildthunders, but I've never seen this bad before! Even in the wild!"
"Ohh..." Ella moaned. "This hurts my ears!"
"Ella, please try to stay healthy." Yogi said. Even he was frightened by this loud wildthunder.
"Wait, what do you mean?" I asked, joining the conversation.
Alicia looked at me. "Ella's growing old. At least, older. Soon, Ella will join the Bear Watcher."
"What?!" I asked in surprise. "No! Ella can't die yet! She hasn't seen the wild!"
Yes. I do have a dream about being in the wild. Fighting back tears, I ran to the gate and saw Oka pressed against the gate.
"Lusa," Oka said. "please find Toklo in the wild. When I left, he was at Bear Snout Mountain. It is by the Three Lakes of Tungala. I bid you good luck, little blackberry."
"What? Why?" I asked. Too much depression was today. It was overwhelming!
"I am too scared. But Toklo. Toklo! TOKLO!" I was too scared to say a word. Oka was obviously mad now, and I looked in fright as she saw the flat-face come to feed the grizzlies.
"No!" I squealed as she raked the flat-face. Thunder crashed, I could see fury in her eyes. Flat-faces were crowding now.
The flat-face screamed in pain as Oka roared and bit his arm. Blood gushed. I couldn't look! The rain hid my tears as I saw Oka in a frenzy.
"TOKLO I WILL COME BACK!" Oka roared with fury. I saw a flat-face with an actual firestick come.
I winced and watched the firestick boom. I looked at the Old Bear tree. He seemed angry; like really angry. I looked and horror and watched the flat-faces as they dragged the unconscious Oka onto their firebeast. I felt a paw on my shoulder. I looked up.
"Come on, little blackberry." Ella said. "My time is almost over. Tonight I'll let you sneak out."
Toklo
"No, Ujurak!" I said. Really, I'm not really compassionate for bears but this one was in big trouble.
The flat-faces laughed and needed to sit down. I ran and didn't think. I charged at the flat-faces and whoosh! killed them.
"Ujurak!" I said. He ran over to the limp body. "Are you alright?"
Thankfully, he opened his eyes. "I... I'm fine." Ujurak choked out. I raised a brow at the oozing red liquid on his shoulder. "I'm fine!" Ujurak said.
"You better be." I said.
Ujurak nodded and looked up at the sky. Clouds were rolling in; we needed shelter.
"How 'bout that hollow tree?" Ujurak said.
I padded up to the hollow, sniffing it. No termites here, I guess it shall do. I nodded. We padded in. It was surprisingly roomy! Well, enough room to fit in. I solemnly looked at the brightest star in the sky.
Sometimes I would ask myself:
Am I really the Lone Bear?

Chapter Eight: The Disaster
Kallik
I woke up to the sound of cracking. I quickly woke up and felt heat in my fur, much stronger than my body warmth. I turned to Nisa. Nisa nudged Taqqiq gently. Nisa's cautious eyes stared at me, harder than a seal's blubber.
"Sun-sky is coming earlier and earlier. we have to hurry, before our den is filled with water!" Nisa told me. Taqqiq woke up, with his eyes full of alert.
Sun-sky.... I thought. It seems more disastrous than I thought.
I followed Nisa out of the den. Just as Taqqiq got out, I saw... us on just an ice-floe. Water surrounded our icy island, and some more empty ice-floes bobbed up and down.
"We must move quickly, and swim to each ice-floe if there's a huge gap." Nisa said.
So scared....
Nisa jumped onto one island. I hopped on one next. Taqqiq soon followed.
I saw a waterway, far away from our next ice-floe. "Mother, me and Taqqiq don't know how to swim!"
Nisa gently nosed my fur, warm and kind. "Our ice spirits are with us."
"HURRY!" Taqqiq shouted. The tenseness in his voice made me whirl around. "Orcas!"
I never seen an orca, but I knew they were dangerous. Nisa saw the evil black fins, cutting through the water, circling our island, that was slowly sinking from our weight. No, no.
Ice spirits, help us! Our fate, is it to die?
Nisa finally spoke. "We must cross. These orcas... I sense they will be too slow. But the number... too much. May the ice spirits be with us!"
I saw Nisa flop into the water. The ice-floe me and Taqqiq were standing on, floated again. But it wasn't over. I saw splashes of water, roars and blood. Nisa has to be alive! Giant teeth of the orcas, fear stung me as they sunk into Nisa's flesh.
"NO!" Me and Taqqiq said.
"Go!" Nisa hoarsely said.
I turned to Taqqiq. "We must get across! Our mother wants us to! She's strong enough to hold us back."
Taqqiq nodded. "Together."
I nodded and we sent a spray of water. Me and Taqqiq paddled to the ice-floe. Taqqiq went up first and he helped me up. We stared at Nisa.
"You can do it!"
But no, the splashes of water gradually died down. The orcas were coming for us next. The ice cracked and separated me from Taqqiq. An orca shot up from the crack and was tipping my broken part. I squeezed my eyes shut.
"Kallik, move!" Taqqiq desperately shouted.
I opened my eyes and shook my head. "If I was to die, then let me be! You go ahead, Taqqiq! At least I'll be with Mother."
So there I stood, feeling the ice-floe tip over.
My duty was to die.
So let me.

Chapter Seven: A Guest
Lusa
Lusa's mom, Alicia, licked Lusa's ruffled black fur. Lusa smiled at Alicia.
"So what were you gonna tell me?" Lusa asked.
"There's a new grizzly coming. Ella says that the grizzly was outraged and in pain when the flat-faces found her." Alicia shook her head. "Wild bears get crazier each day. I don't understand this."
"Like my daddy."Lusa pitifully mourned. "He almost bit Ella. Probably rabies." Lusa's face lit up. "I'm going to check on the Grumps.
Lusa always called grizzlies Grumps. In the Bear Bowl, there were lots of bears. Grizzlies were Grumps and white bears were called Swimmers. Lusa shuddered. The white bears were so tall, they could eat Lusa in one snap of their mammoth jaws! She soon saw a metal wired gate that seperated the black bears from the Grumps. A couple of flat-faces but an unconscious Grump by the wired gate, near Lusa. The flat faces quickly hurried off. There, the Grump woke up. The Grump's furious/sad eyes stared at Lusa.
"Who are you? Where am I? What happened to my cub?" The grizzly said.
"I'm Lusa, a black bear. Um, you're in the Bear Bowl and I don't know your cub is. Perhaps you should check the flat-face's long firebeast?" Lusa said.
The grizzly bear's eyes softened. "Ah, you must be a kind one. My name is Oka. I had abandoned my cub because I care for only my other one." Oka began to wail. "Oh, Toklo! If you only knew I loved you too!"
Lusa felt pity for Oka. But a thousand thoughts whirled in her head. "Are you hungry for fruit? I know how to get a ton of fruit. maybe I can fetch you some fruit!" Lusa offered. "Do you like pears, mangoes, wedges of pineapples, apples, pulps of oranges?"
Oka shook her head and nosed Lusa. "We grizzlies don't live on fruit. We eat salmon, such and such. Hunt for rabbits instead of my dumb idea of dandelions!"
"What's a salmon?" Lusa asked, curiously.
Oka gave a small smile. She looked up to where the Mountains were. "The wild," Oka murmured. The grizzly remembered her time where she roamed freely with Tobi and Toklo. "You have many things to learn, young blackberry." Oka finally said. "Many."
